We will be discussing a really cool topic that was brought to my attention by one Naruto fan and I’m sure that you are going to love it as well, let’s begin.
Now, we all know the Rasengan as the blue spiral tornado ball that was passed down by the Fourth Hokage to Jiraiya and then Jiraiya passing it down to Naruto to become one of his signature moves, aside from the Shadow Clone Jutsu.
However, the ORIGINAL concept from Masashi Kishimoto meant for the Rasengan to be yellow! So how did it end up being blue? Well I’m here to tell you what happened.
To begin with, Shuiesha Shonen Jump and Studio Pierrot are two separate companies and entities. Studio Pierrot uses the Naruto Manga as a reference for when they’re adapting the manga content over into anime episodes.
Since Manga is in black and white, it is not clear what color is what. Now the Art director over at Studio Pierrot when he first saw the Rasengan in the manga must’ve not cleared the palette choice with Kishimoto. So whenever they made the episode that showcased it, we all knew the Rasengan to be Blue.
However, in Kishimoto’s art books and sometimes the manga covers, the Rasengan can be seen as Yellow! There are a few reasons we can infer from this and this is where people have bene making theories.
- The Rasengan being yellow could be due to Kurama’s chakra influence on the jutsu.
- Studio Pierrot decided to make it blue from their perspective.
- Kishimoto could’ve changed his mind about it being blue and changed it yellow himself.
These are just a few but they’re the main three that goes around in the community. Like I said before, since Shueisha and Studio Pierrot are two spate entities they do not work together.
So once Pierrot has the license for Naruto, they can do pretty much whatever they want. However, Kishimoto is good friends with everyone at Pierrot and that is why he chose that studio to animate Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
Its also important to state that Kishimoto gave Studio Pierrot the lead animation studio to handle THE LAST – Naruto the Movie. And in that movie, Naruto is seen using both a blue Rasengan, as well as a yellow Rasengan, and a yellow Rasenshuriken!
So its kind of unsaid as to why they’re different colors. For all we know it could be a mistake form so man y people handling the material. But then again, in a studio, every animator and inker is given a CONCEPT ART Character Sheet with every characters color palettes.
Anyways with that said, what do you think is the REAL reason why the Rasengan was presented by us to be Blue, but then Yellow by the creator of the manga? In my opinion I think the blue fits nicely when in comparison to Chidori and Naruto’s color palette overall. The yellow is also nice, but I’m glad with what we got either way!
Set in a slightly futuristic world where Earth has been invaded and is at war with aliens from another dimension called the Nova, the story follows the adventures of a Japanese boy named Kazuya Aoi who enrolls for training at a special school for genetically modified girls called Pandoras who battle the aliens, and their male partners, called Limiters, who use a special power called “freezing” to limit their opponent’s mobility. The protagonist makes the acquaintance of an unusual older girl named Satellizer el Bridget who appears to be the most powerful Pandora in her class, but has not yet chosen a male partner to be her Limiter, and in spite of the warnings of all his friends, he decides to be her Limiter.
