One of if not the most powerful dojutsu (eye jutsu) in the entire series, the Rinnegan. The Rinnegan has six paths (six various main powers) that give this eye its reputation as one of the most powerful entities in the universe of Naruto. The Rinnegan has powers such as gravitational push and pull, reviving the dead and extracting souls, summoning mythological beasts and the Hell God, seeing and sensing chakra, giving access to all five chakra natures, as well as chakra absorption. This special dojutsu however isn’t simply born into just anyone. There are ways people have fought to get their hand on this eye and today we will be discussing and listing all the ninja who have possessed a Rinnegan.
Hagoromo Otsutsuki
Otherwise known as the Sage of Six Paths, he was the first person to awaken the Rinnegan on his own. In the anime, Studio Pierrot animated the backstory of Hagoromo and it was shown that he awakened it by purposely injuring his brother (Hamura) in order to change the Sharingan into the Rinnegan. Hagoromo was said to be the only one in the story to have full access and control over the Rinnegan. He could use it to summon souls directly from the dead (past Kage) and undo the reincarnation jutsu.
Nagato Uzumaki
Born the son of refugee Uzumaki, he was orphaned as people targeted his family. Obito was the one who actually gave Nagato Madara’s Rinnegan. And it was because Nagato was an Uzumaki (strong life force), he was able to control having the eyes and utilize its powers. He took advantage of his life force advantage and the Rinnegan by installing black rods into other bodies to control them. Nagato was capable of using all the powers of the Rinnegan, but considered himself nowhere near to that of the Sage of Six Paths.
Madara Uchiha
After Madara faked his death after fighting Hashirama using Izanagi, Madara was bale to get a piece of Hashirama’s DNA. Madara swallowed it and by combining both powers of the Senju and the Uchiha, he was able to awaken the Rinnegan. Because Madara was an experienced Ninja, he was able to switch between Sharingan and Rinnegan. Madara was even capable of summoning meteors and accessing Limbo.
